US to take on Ebola in West Africa

West African nations are fighting their own battle everyday with a non-human enemy which is all set to take on its victim in a deadly stride and not leave until the latter succumbs to its manifestations and gives way to death to take its course. People are grappling with fear of the infection and are trying to flee for safer areas. There is a dearth of health-care workers, paramedics, doctors, medicines, clinics who can treat such patients and even the hospital beds.
After heavy and widespread in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone the virus has entered Nigeria and Senegal. The reported deaths till date are 2400 and an estimate states that thousands are infected and in need of urgent healthcare. With the hospitals simmering with patients, WHO has called the situation as a ‘dire emergency’ with unprecedented dimensions of human suffering.
There is an exponential rise in the number of new cases and the authorities have already ran-out of supplies. President Obama has come forward with the US package of aid and help to the craving population of West Africa where as the President said men, women and children are waiting to be treated and saved from death. The President expressed concern at the alarming situation but also expressed hope as he stated that science has both cure and the capacity to deal with Ebola. The techniques to treat the infected and prevent further spread are known to science. They have to be put in the right place at the right time.
US will under ‘Operation United Assistance’ will build an air-bridge to bring additional supplies and aid workers to the region. Also, it will 400,000 treatment kits with sanitizer and other protective items like gloves to families to help them protect their own safety as they care for sick relatives.
The situation calls for extraordinary effort and help to help the population of Africa cope with the disease.
