TikTok banned on Government Devices in the US

The US Senate Panel has approved a bill with the condition that the US Federal employees will not be allowed to use the China-owned mobile video application, TikTok, effective immediately. The bill coming from Senator Josh Hawley was passed unanimously by the US Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. Now it will have to undergo the scrutiny of a voting process meant for this purpose.

The ‘No TikTok on Government Devices Act’ has been passed keeping in mind the fact that the personal information of the employees may end up with the government officials in China.

TikTok is mainly used to create short dance, lip-sync, comedy and talent videos and it had around 26.5 million active users in the US. Now, these companies are mandated to support and cooperate with the Chinese Government in case of national intelligence work, as per a law passed in 2017 by the China Government.

Now if the bill is approved in the voting by the Senate Committee, it will soon become law in the United States. The government is also mulling action against all such Chinese applications to be used in the country.
