A 555.55-carat black diamond called “The Enigma” was unveiled in Dubai on January 17, 2022.

  • After a tour in Dubai, diamond will also be taken to Los Angeles before it will go under auction in London in February 2022.

Cost of diamond

Diamond is likely to get sold for at least 5 million British pounds (USD 6.8 million). Sotheby has also planned to accept cryptocurrency as a possible way of payment.

About the Enigma diamond

Shape of the diamond is inspired from Middle-Eastern palm symbol of Khamsa, that stands for strength and it stands for protection. In Arabic, Khamsa means five. Thus, there is a theme of number five running throughout the diamond.

How this diamond was created?

This diamond is believed to have been created when an asteroid or a meteorite hit the Earth more than 2.6 billion years ago.

In 2021, the Key 10138 diamond sold for 12.3 million dollars in Hong Kong. It was paid in cryptocurrency.

Black Diamond

Carbonado is commonly known as black diamond. It is one of the toughest forms of natural diamond. It is an impure, micro-porous, high-density form of polycrystalline diamond, comprising of diamond, graphite, and amorphous carbon. It has minor crystalline precipitates filling pores as well as occasional reduced metal inclusions. The diamond is found primarily in alluvial deposits. It is most prominent in mid-elevation equatorial regions like Central African Republic and in Brazil. Its natural colour is black or dark grey. The diamond is more porous than other diamonds. The first black diamonds were discovered in 1800s in Brazil.
