State General Category Commission in Punjab

Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, has approved to set up “State General Category Commission” for unreserved classes.

Highlights

  • The Commission will safeguard interests of unreserved classes and help in effective implementation of several welfare schemes.
  • Commission will work for the welfare of poor belonging to unreserved classes.

Other states to set up General Category Commission

Apart from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have set up “state General Category Commission”.

One-time settlement policy

State cabinet also approved to come up with “One-time settlement policy” for chronic defaulters of principal cost dues of industrial plots, which are located in different focal points in the state. Under this policy, defaulters will be provided an opportunity to clear their long outstanding dues, after availing 100 percent waiver of penal interest and of 25 per cent of normal interest due or maximum up to current reserve price of the plot. Plot holders will have to deposit their dues on or before March 31, 2022.

Motor Vehicle tax exemption

Cabinet also approved the exemption of Motor Vehicle Tax for stage carriage buses (big & mini buses) as well as contract carriage vehicles which are less than 16-seater vehicles. This move will relieve the transport sector from financial loss.

Geeta Adhyayan, Sanatani Granth institute

Cabinet also decided to set up a Geeta Adhyayan and Sanatani Granth Institute at Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala for carrying teaching and research. This institute will promote a considerate attitude towards spiritual, religious and ethnic perspective of others.

Film & TV development council

Cabinet further approved to set up of Film & Television Development Council in Punjab. This council will have 11 members and a chairperson who would be nominated by state government.
