Siddhalingeshwara Temple

The Siddhalingeshwara Temple recently held the chariot pulling festival among masses of pilgrimage despite the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

About the Temple

The Yediyuru Siddhalingeshwara Temple is a famous pilgrimage centre in in Kunigal Town in Karnataka. The temple is an example of Dravidian style of temple architecture. It contains the ‘samadhi’ of Tontada Siddalinga- a 15th century Lingayats saint who preached the Sharana faith.

Festivals in the Temple

The Siddhalingeshwara Jatra is a 15 day long temple fair held after the Ugadi celebrations. It is held in the Hindu calendar month of Chaitra. The temple car festival is held in the month of March or April. Maha Shivaratri is another festival celebrated in the temple.

Temple Car

Temple cars are decorated chariots that are used to carry Hindu gods’ representations during processions. The processions is carried out during the Ratha Yatra or Ther Thiruvizha. The largest temple car in Asia is the Thiruvarur Thiyagarajar Temple chariot in Tamil Nadu.
