Seven companies have built ONDC compatible apps

According to union commerce and industry ministry, seven companies have adopted ONDC protocols and have built their own ONDC-compatible apps.

Highlights

  • These apps have been able to complete the cascaded transactions successfully, across the ONDC network during pilot phase.
  • Cascaded transactions were completed in states like New Delhi, Bengaluru, Shillong, Bhopal and Coimbatore across the grocery, food and beverages segments.
  • Seven companies that adopted the ONDC protocol include-one buyer side app, one logistics service provider app and five seller side apps.

ONDC Advisory Council Meeting

  • This was informed by Union Minister Piyush Goyal, during a meeting of ONDC Advisory Council. Meeting was held to review the progress made in project.
  • Meeting also discussed plans for to roll out the platform for larger number of traders, geographies, companies and categories of goods in faster manner.
  • According to ministry, success achieved has developed interest in many new companies. As a result, huge number of companies on seller side, buyer side, and logistics side are building their own apps. They are in advanced stages of integration with ONDC.
  • The Minister further asked the ministry to launch a pilot, by focusing on non-digital traders from one single market.
  • During the meeting, it was highlighted that NABARD and ONDC are working on a programme for bringing agriculture sector to the platform.

What is ONDC?

ONDC stands for “open network for digital commerce”. The pilot phase of ONDC was launched by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of Ministry of Commerce and Industry, on April 29, 2022. It is a UPI-type protocol. The protocol was launched in five cities for democratising the fast-growing e-commerce sector, reduce dominance of online retail giants as well as help small retailers.  On ONDC, sellers and buyers would be able to transact irrespective of their attachment with one specific e-commerce portal.
