SC dismissed the appeal challenging authenticity of ‘Triple Talaq’

Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal which has challenged the constitutional authenticity of an ordinance which makes the practice of instant triple talaq a punishable offence. The bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi dismissed the plea of a Kerala-based outfit and said it will not like to interfere. The Muslim Women Ordinance was first notified on September 19 last year, hours after the Union Cabinet had cleared it. The ordinance which has made the practice of instant triple talaq a punishable offence was issued for the third time in less than a year on February 21.
