Roorkee Water Conclave 2022

2nd edition of the “Roorkee Water Conclave 2022” was inaugurated on March 2, 2022 by the union minister for Jal Shakti Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

  • The conclave was inaugurated at by Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.
  • It is being organised from March 2, to March 4, 2022, jointly by IIT Roorkee and National Institute of Hydrology.
  • Conclave 2022 would focus on understanding water security and its multiple facets supporting sustainable water resource management as a key component of the social development.

Theme of the conclave

The conclave focuses on the theme- “Water Security for Sustainable Development”.

Significance of the conclave

Water security is a major topic of discussion for sustainability worldwide. Thus, ‘Roorkee Water Conclave 2022’ will help in finding solutions to the issues of water scarcity, sustainable use of water and sanitation. These efforts along with Integrated Ganga Rejuvenation Mission will help in maintaining the ecological flow of river Ganga and in turn ensure the sustainable development of environment by improving quality of water.

Exhibition of NMCG

National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has also set up an exhibition at Roorkee Water Conclave till March 7, 2022. During the exhibition, it will showcase several aspects of River Ganga, its conservation and rejuvenation efforts. The exhibition was inaugurated by Director General of National Mission for Clean Ganga, G. Asok Kumar. Students from the local schools & colleges are also being taken to visit this exhibition, for creating awareness on river rejuvenation & conservation.

National Mission for Clean Ganga

National Mission for Clean Ganga was registered as a society on August 12, 2011 under Societies Registration Act 1860. It acts as the implementation arm of National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA), that was constituted under provisions of Environment (Protection) Act (EPA), 1986. NGRBA was dissolved on October 7, 2016.
