‘Prahari’ App and BSF Manuals Launched

Union Homme and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched the ‘Prahari’ app and the revised version 13 Border Security Force (BSF) manuals.

What is Prahari App?

The Prahari App can be used by the jawans of the Border Security Force (BSF) to get information about the accommodation facilities, Ayushman-CAPF and leaves. This application also provides information about bio-data, grievance redressal on the “Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CP-GRAMS), and information related to various welfare schemes for the BSF. It will connect the user to the Home Ministry’s portal.

About the BSF manuals

Thirteen BSF manuals were revised and upgraded to increase the understanding of the administration, training and operations of the border guarding organization. These manuals will help speed up the tasks of the BSF jawans. They will ease the works of all ranks of BSF jawans and officers.

About the Border Security Force (BSF)

  • The Border Security Force is one of the 7 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).
  • It comes under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • It was raised on December 1, 1965 in the wake of the 1965 war between India and Pakistan.
  • Its mandate is to secure the Indian borders and deal with matters related to the same.
  • This CAPF is currently guarding India’s boarders with Bangladesh and Pakistan.
  • The BSF includes an Air wing, Marine wing, an artillery regiment, and specialized units.
  • It is currently the largest border guarding force in the world.
  • This CAPF is deemed as the “first line of defence” of the Indian territories.
  • Besides protecting India’s borders, it is also involved in addressing illegal activities happening close to the border areas. In the past three years, over 26,000 kg of narcotics and 2,500 arms and ammunition were seized through BSF.
  • It is involved in anti-drone security. The Noida-based “BSF Drone/UAV and Cyber Forensic Lab” is currently mapping drones that have been captured by the BSF to identify their links and origins outside the borders.
