October 9: World Post Day

The World Post Day was declared by the UPU (Universal Postal Union) Congress in Tokyo, Japan. The proposal for the commemoration of the day was submitted by a member of Indian Delegation Mohan Narula.

It was started in Switzerland in 1874. The Union laid the first stone of global communication revolution. It introduced the system of writing to others all over the world.

Today the day is supported by the United Nations as well. It believes that the day supports to raise awareness of postal sector in today’s life. Every year more than 150 countries celebrate the day. Communication among the world citizens is necessary to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Hence, the World Postal Day has its role of spreading information and creating awareness
