National Sports Award

National Sports Award is presented annually by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.  This award is presented by the President of India and it is categorized into 6 different awards. Recently, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has invited applications for the National Sports Award 2021.

The National Sports is a collection of 6 awards and they are:

  • Maulana Abul Kalam Azad trophy: This award is presented to the university that shows the top performance in inter-university tournaments.
  • Arjuna Award: Given for showing outstanding performance in sports to a sportsperson for over a period of four years.
  • Dronacharya Award: Given to coaches who have successfully trained outstanding sports performers at the international level.
  • Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna: Given to a sportsperson for showing outstanding performances in the field of a certain sport for over four years.
  • Dhyan Chand Award: Given to personalities who have given a lifetime contribution towards the development of sports.
  • Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puroshkar: Given to public and private sector organisations as well as individuals who have helped in the development and promotion of sports.
