MARSBOx

Launched in 2019, MARSBOx (Microbes in Atmosphere for Radiation, Survival and Biological Outcomes experiment) involved the exposure of bacteria, filamentous fungi (mold) and yeast to Martian conditions. The experiment was flown to stratosphere, which is the second major layer of Earth’s atmosphere and has almost similar conditions as that of Martian atmosphere. Several microbes, especially black mold fungus, were able to survive the experiment, even after exposure to UV radiation.
