India ranked 94th in corruption perception list
Transparency International has ranked India at 94th place in its Corruption Perception Index 2012 (CPI) which enlisted 176 countries.
India scored 36 on a scale from 0 (most corrupt) to 100 (least corrupt). The low score of India is attributed to the recent scams and incidents of corruption in the public sector involving government officials, private officials and private companies.
Denmark, Finland and Switzerland topped the index with a score of 90 followed by Sweden with a score of 88.
Afghanistan, North Korea and Somalia scored just 8 to be ranked lowest on the index.
India stood below Sri Lanka and China, while it ranked better than Iran, Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
From 2012, the CPI methodology has been updated to provide for year-over-year comparisons.
