India – Central African Republic Relations

The bilateral relations between the countries began when India signed an agreement to hold foreign office consultation in CAR in 2010. Following which India set up an education project in 2010. In 2011, an IT centre for excellence was established.

The Government of India had approved various lines of credit since 2010. It extended a credit of 24 million USD for construction of cement plant in 2014. India also provided 5.5 million USD to purchase 100 buses in 2016. Apart from this India helped in Limestone mining projects and hydroelectric projects.

The trade between the two countries is miniscule. India exports 6 million USD (2011 – 12) worth goods to CAR. It imports 2 million USD (2011 – 12) worth goods from CAR.

India provides scholarship to the CAR citizens under the ITEC – Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Program.

There are 66 Indians living in CAR. Out of them, 45 are employed by the UN peace keeping mission MINUSCA. MINUSCA is Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic. It was begun in 2014 to protect the CAR civilians. The rest are involved in trading activities.
