Imphal – Mandalay bus service

To improve the connectivity and trade between north east India and Myanmar, a weekly bus service between Imphal in Manipur and Myanmar’s Mandalay has been started. Its train run was flagged off in December, 2015. It is the first direct link between the two nations. It is described as a bridge to south-east Asia. The total length of the bus route is 579 km.

Since long time, the people of Manipur demanded for a cross-border service. A resolution was passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 1, 2003 for opening of the bus route. The state government submitted a detail proposal in this regard to the DoNER ministry and ministry of Road Transport and Highways in June 2009. It was finalized in 2012.
