Health Ministry- Panchayat Ministry MoU to eliminate TB

Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoH&FW) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the elimination of TB.

About the MoU

  • MoU between MoPR and Central TV division of MoH&FW will build-up inter–Ministerial collaboration and strategic partnerships.
  • It is aimed at achieving the ambitious target of Indian government, to eliminating TB by 2025.
  • MoU will also make ways for coordinated efforts at grassroots level, in order to generate awareness among mass in rural areas to end stigma and discrimination related to the Tuberculosis.
  • It will also help in potentially utilizing the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) or Rural Local Bodies in eliminating TB in country.
  • Objectives and targets set under the TB Free Indian Campaign will also be achieved through the MoU.
  • It will also advance the “TB Harega, Desh Jeetega” campaign across rural India.

Objective of the MoU

The MoU was inked with the objective of bring in convergence at policy, programme and implementation levels among different Ministries of the Government, in order to create a multi–sectoral and accelerated response system “TB Free India”. MoH&FW aims to reach to the population, including workers, migrants, women & children, miners, tribal populations etc, through Inter-Ministerial coordination.

National Strategic Plan 2017–2025

MoH&FW has developed a National Strategic Plan 2017–2025, for elimination of TB in the country by 2025.

About TB Free India Campaign

The TB Free India Campaign was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to eliminate Tuberculosis in India. This campaign seeks to achieve the target of eliminating TB by 2025, as a part of sustainable development goals. However, goal of eliminating TB by 2025, is 5 years ahead of global target of eliminating TB by 2030.
