Indian organisation named Global Himalayan Expedition wins UN Global Climate Action Award for combating climate change amid COVID-19 pandemic.

About

GHE is a corporation that manages ‘Impacts Expeditions’ to the Himalayan villages in native areas. These expeditions will have a valid cause. For instance, to set up solar energy in remote villages.

Significance of GHE

  • GHE is an Indian corporation that strengths technology and tourism in order to support remote group gain solar energy.
  • GHE utilizes a portion of the charged expedition fee in funding the cost of transmission, hardware, training, and installation of village-scale solar micro-grids. The micro-grid network launched by the Global Himalayan Expedition is then owned and handle by the community.

Achievements of GHE:

At present, the corporation has solar electrified more than 131 villages in three regions of India. It has directly hit the lives of more than 60,000 villagers.

  • Exceeding 1,300 travellers from 60 various countries have also been a share of these expeditions.
  • Above USD 1,14,000 has been produce in income for the villages by enhancing livelihood across homestay tourism.

The UN Global Climate Action awards are guided by the power for change drive at UN Climate Change. The declaration of awards is also a major goal to mobilize wishes and action as government work with regards to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Change Agreement.
