Electric Vehicle Policy passed by Delhi Government
The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal on Monday, December 23, 2019, announced that the Cabinet of the Delhi Government has approved a policy on electric vehicles (EVs). The aim of the policy will be to tackle the rising air population in India’s capital territory. A board will be constituted by the Delhi government for implementing the electric vehicle policy. Under the policy, for all-electric vehicles, the registration fee and road tax will be waived off.
Highlights from the Policy:
- In the next one year, 35,000 electric vehicles to be induced
- By 2024, raising the total number of registered e-vehicles to 25 percent of the total number of vehicles that are registered
- A special provision allowing e-bike taxis to operate
- Delhi Government to provide subsidy- for two-wheelers- Rs 5,000 per kWh of battery capacity
- An incentive for switching from non-electric two-wheeler to an electric vehicle, of up to Rs 5,000
- Two-wheelers engaged in delivery services such as courier, e-commerce logistics and food delivery will be expected to use 100 percent electric two-wheelers fleet by 2025
- Subsidy on purchase of e-rickshaw, electric autos and e-carriers to be provided up to Rs 30,000
Benefits estimated from the policy after five years:
- Electric vehicles will save around Rs 6,000 crores of liquid natural gas and oil consumption
- Electric vehicles to save carbon dioxide emissions by 4.8 million tonnes
