Delhi to launch ‘Anti-open burning campaign’

The Delhi government had announced on November 9, 2021 to launch “Anti-Open Burning Campaign”. The campaign will run from November 11 to December 11, 2021 in Delhi.

Highlights

  • This campaign was launched to curb instances of open burning and air pollution in Delhi.
  • It was launched as the Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi turned ‘hazardous’ after Diwali.
  • In other move, Delhi government recently banned 92 construction sites for violating dust norms.

About Anti-Open Burning Campaign

Anti-Open Burning Campaign is a campaign that will run for a month, starting from November 11. It seeks to curb instances of open burning and air pollution in Delhi.

Implementing agency

  • This campaign is a joint initiative of 10 different departments namely DDA, DPCC, Revenue Department, Cantonment Board, Development Department, DSIIDC, I&FC Department, North DMC, East DMC and South DMC. These departments will assemble their teams to implement the campaign.
  • Under it, 550 teams will help in identifying and eliminating any instances of open burning.
  • Out of 550 teams, 304 teams will work during the day while 246 teams will patrol during night.
  • All the departments are also free to formulate their own anti-dust cells.

Green Delhi App

Green Delhi App will be available for people of Delhi to report unaddressed cases of open burning to take immediate action.

Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP)

GRAP will help in identifying the sources of pollution. All public transport will be promoted in line with this plan. Under the plan, open fires will be banned in Delhi.

Water sprinkling drive & Spraying Bio-decomposer

Government will expand water sprinkling drive with the support of Municipal Corporations of Delhi, DSIIDC and Cantonment Board. Government will also spray bio-decomposer over 4,000 acres. Spraying drive will be concluded by November 20, 2021
