Dal Lake

Dal Lake is located in Srinagar, in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It spans across 18 square kilometres and is a part of a natural wetland that covers around 21 km, including floating gardens. It is a famous tourist destination and is known as the “Jewel in the crown of Kashmir”. The lake also plays a critical role in the valley’s commercial endeavours like fishing and water plant harvesting.

The past few years have witnessed this lake shrinking because of illegal encroachments. To address this issue, the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority has demolished more than 170 illegal structures across this lake.
