Pentavalent Vaccine Project to be launched in Kerala on Dec 14

  • Kerala is among the first two states (other Tamil Nadu) selected in the country to replace five different immunisation vaccines with a Pentavalent Vaccine. It provides protection against the most dangerous childhood diseases. The pentavalent vaccine is WHO-approved and will encompass the regular DPT and combine it with Hepatitis B, and Hib (Haemophilus influenza type b). All children, during their first year of age, should receive three doses of the pentavalent vaccine with an interval of at least four weeks between them.

Cook honoured with MBE for Ashes heroics

  • England ODI skipper Alastair Cook presented with the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) award by the Queen at a Buckingham Palace investiture ceremony for his outstanding performance against Australia during the Ashes series. The 26-year-old Cook scored an incredible 766 runs in seven innings and helped England thrash Australia 3-1, which is their first victory in Australia for 24 years.

Indian Muslims mark Muharram with mourning, processions

  • Amid cries of “Ya Hussain”, thousands of Muslims in India flagellated themselves in large processions to mourn the killing of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Mohammed, who was martyred some 1,330 years ago at Karbala in Iraq on the 10th day of the first Islamic month of Muharram.

  • Former Football Player Abdul Khuddus (70) passed away. Khuddus had represented the Karnataka State in Junior Nationals in 1965-66 and DCM at Delhi in 1966.

President Patil creates history, rides T-90 battle tank

  • After taking off in the frontline Sukhoi-30 MKI, President Pratibha Patil once again donned military fatigues to ride a T-90 main battle tank, becoming the first head of state to do so. Dressed in black overalls worn by the personnel of the tank regiments, the 76-year-old President entered the exercise ‘Sudarshan Shakti’ in Barmer riding in the main battle tank with Army Chief General V K Singh. This is Ms Patil’s second ride in a defence vehicle as she flew the Sukhoi-30MKI fighter aircraft at the Lohegaon air base in Pune in 2009.

  • American astronomers have confirmed the existence of an earth-like planet, Kepler 22-b, in the “habitable zone” around a star similar to the sun.

  • BASIC (Brazil, South Africa, India, China) group presented in Dubai, a unified stand, holding a second commitment period for the Kyoto Protocol – the only legally binding regime controlling greenhouse gas emissions – beyond its expiry date next year as “must”.

    In the current affair section, there are
    several informations present which
    belong to the year 2009-10.

    Since, 2011 is also over, I think the informations present related to MAY-2011 should be categorised so that the readers don’t get confused with old materials.

    That’s correct what Arvind said. it could be easier for the readers to keep a follow up of changes if the details are divided categorically on a monthly basis.
