Swachhata Abhiyan App launched

On December 24, 2020, the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment launched a mobile application “Swachhata Abhiyian”. The application was developed to geotag the data of insanitary latrines and manual scavengers.

Tso Kar Wetland added to Ramsar site

The Tso Kar lake in Ladakh was recently added to list of Ramsar convention. It is the 42nd Ramsar site of the country. With 42 sites, India now has the highest number of Ramsar sites in Asia.

Visva-Bharati Centenary celebrations

On December 24, 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the centenary celebrations of Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan.

NASSCOM, Microsoft Foundation to aid digital skilling of ITI students

The Directorate General of Training of MSDE has joined Microsoft and NASSCOM to provide digital content for ITI students and future ready skilling and employability programme for their reskilling. Around 3,000 ITI students spread across India can avail the digitized learning module.

DGNCC Digital Forum launched

Kerala Government announces Rs 10,000 crores development project

On December 24, 2020, the Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan announced Rs 10,000 crores worth development projects. The projects are to be implemented in next hundred days.

FASTag for all vehicles mandatory from January 2021

On December 24, 2020, the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that FASTag is to be made mandatory for all vehicles in the country from January 1, 2021.

The National Consumer Rights Day was observed on December 24. Theme: New Features of Consumer Protection Act, 2019. The act was passed on this day in 1986.

India challenges Vodafone Arbitration

India has challenged the Vodafone Group in Singapore against an International Arbitration Court Verdict. Three months ago, a verdict was pronounced that India cannot seek Rs 22,100 crores retrospectively from Vodafone. Also, India was asked to pay legal fees of about 5.3 million USD.

National Security Directive on Telecom Sector

On December 23, 2020, the Government of India approved National Security Directive on telecommunication sector. The move will restrict the use of Chinese equipment by telecom operators in 5G network.

RBI cancels license of Subhadra Local Area Bank

On December 24, 2020, the Reserve Bank of India cancelled the license of Subhadra Local Area Bank in Kolhapur. The bank had breached the minimum net worth requirement for two quarters in the financial year 2019-20.

MV Jag Anand Crew continue to languish in China

Twenty-three crew members of the Indian Ship Jag Anand is stuck at the Chinese port since June 2020. The Chinese Government is not allowing the ship to unload the cargo from Australia.

Brahmaputra Aamantran Abhiyan

The Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju flagged off the 917-kilo metre long Brahmaputra Amantran Abhiyan. The month-long expedition was organised by the Brahmaputra Board under the Jal Shakti Ministry. It is supported by State Governments of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and the National Disaster Response Force.

India’s largest Hockey Stadium

On December 24, 2020, the Odisha CM announced the construction of the largest hockey stadium of India in Rourkela. The stadium is to host 2023 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup.
