Arunachal Pradesh:
On October 13, 2009, Elections for 60 assembly seats of Arunachal Pradesh Lagislative Assembly were organised. The results were declared on October 22, 2009. The Congress won and Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu’s Indian National Congress party came back to power in the state with an increased majority, winning 42 seats in the 60 seat Assembly.

The Congress party won 42 of the 60 seats in the Assembly, including 3 uncontested seats – Dorjee Khandu from Mukto, Tsewang Dhondup from Tawang and Jambey Tashi from Lumla.

However , seven times MLA and former chief minister, Gegong Apang, and his son Omak Apang both lost the elections. While Gegong lost to NCP, his son was defeated by BJP candidate.Dorjee Khandu was smoothly elected as the Congress Legislative Party leader on October 24, 2009. He is sworn in as Chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh for the second time.

Maharastra:
The 13th Assembly elections were held in Maharashtra, on October 13, 2009. Voters elected the 288 members of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in newly organised assembly constituencies after the delimitation approved in 2008. The results were declared on October 22, 2009.

Haryana:
On October 13, 2009, Elections for 90 assembly seats of Haryana Lagislative Assembly were organised. The results were declared on October 22, 2009. It was considered as Congress Stronghold prior to the elections however, the seats won by Congress were not as expected. It won 6 seats less than majority winning only 40 seats. In 2005 elections congress has won 67 seats. Bhupender Singh Huda was sworn in as Chief Minsiter again.
Seats won were as follows:

  • Congress 40
  • Indian National Lok Dal : 31
  • Haryana Janhit Congress (Bhajan Lal) : 6
  • Bhartiya Janta Party : 4
  • Others : 9
