Country’s first ‘walk-through’ aviary at Mumbai

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday, 26th January 2020 inaugurated the Indias first ‘walk- through’ aviary and also the biggest and tallest as part of the 71st Republic Day celebrations at the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan and Zoo located in the capital city of Maharashtra, Mumbai.

The aviary is a home for over 100 species of rare, exotic and common birds to which more birds will be added which will live in their natural environment comprising of an area of over 18,200 square feet and height of 44 feet and adding to this a small bridge passes through the aviary which will be opened for the public to walk through and watch the birds closely and there will be a separate closure for aquatic birds.

The Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan and Zoo also bragged with excessive pride that it will be the country’s first air-conditioned enclosure for Humboldt Penguins and other 17 animals and planning to add sections for the Asiatic Lion, Tigers, and another bird enclosure.
