Climateprenurship

Climateprenurship is a form of social entrepreneurship to fight climate change.

Highlights

  • Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry, addressed a Special Interactive Session on Environment, “ONLY ONE EARTH – a discussion on Environment”.
  • The session was organized at Expo 2020, Dubai by the India Pavilion and Bhamla Foundation. The minister gave three action points to climate warriors:
    1. He asked the climate warriors to adopt Climateprenurship as a mission and to ensure that new inventions and emerging technologies adhere to the spirit of climate justice.
    2. He asked for greater industry participation and investments in clean technologies such as Renewable Energy, Electric Vehicles, green hydrogen so that growth can be decoupled from carbon emissions.
    3. As the change must start at home, he asked Indian households to move towards sustainable and organic products in daily life.

Initiatives of the government

  • India is the fastest-growing green economy in the world and is the only G20 country that is on track to achieve the Paris climate goals. Today, India’s installed non-fossil energy capacity is around 150 GW.
  • Panchamrit goals outlined by PM Modi at UNFCCC COP 26 in the 2021 Glasgow summit reinforced India’s commitment and dedication towards fighting climate change. The goals include an ambitious goal of net-zero by 2070 and to reach a non-fossil energy capacity of 500 GW by 2030.
  • The recent Union budget 2022 gives a boost to green industrialization through initiatives like the sovereign green bonds and additional allocation for solar Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI).
  • India’s largest Bio-CNG plant was inaugurated recently to focus on ‘Waste to Energy’ and ‘Waste to Wealth’.
  • National policy on bio-fuels was launched to productively use agricultural waste and to cut down fuel imports.

India also launched several other initiatives like National Hydrogen Mission, the UJALA scheme, banning single-use plastic, etc.
