  • They have good microbes that help to replenish soil.

Role of Kinnow crop in Bio Enzymes production

Kinnow fruit crops is widely grown in Punjab. However, the kinnow fruits that fall from the trees are total waste to farmers. In October 2021, the Punjab farmers collected these falling fruits. And produced bio enzymes from the rotten fruits.

Why Kinnow was used in Bio Enzyme production?

Around 40,000 hectares of land is under kinnow cultivation in Punjab. The state produces 10 lakh tonnes annually. It is a year long duration crop. The main harvesting period of the crop is between November and March. However, 20% of the kinnow production falls from the tree. These fallen fruits are of no use and are a major challenge for the farmers. They have to dig up pits to bury these fallen fruits. Else, the fallen fruit will attract flies. Thus, the fallen kinnow fruits were used to produce Bio Enzymes.

How did Punjab farmers produce Bio enzymes?

40 plastic drums were purchased. Each drum had a capacity of 500 litres. 99 kg of kinnow, 330 litres of water and 33 kg of jaggery were added to the drums. The lids of the drums were then tightened. The bio enzymes are ready in 100 days in the drum.
