Arunachal Pradesh to provide 100% tap water connections to all its households by 2023
The Government of North Eastern state Arunachal Pradesh has set a target to provide tap water connections to each and every household in the State by 2023 under Union Government’s flagship program Jal Jeevan Mission.

What is Jal Jeevan Mission?
Jal Jeevan Mission is a scheme under the Ministry of Jal Shakti which aims at providing safe and adequate drinking water to all households in rural India through linking individual household tap connections by 2024. The project is also aimed at implementing measures like greywater management, water conservation, rainwater harvesting, etc.
What is the conventional method of water supply in the North Eastern States?
- North Indian states are located in hilly regions. The conventional method of water supply is entirely Gravity based.
- Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, it was decided to build water treatment plants to prevent health hazards and ensure drinkable water supply.
- The water reservoir will be built above the village to provide continuous water supply to the villages through the arrangement of pipes.
What is the gravity-based water supply system?
The gravity-based water supply system is used in hilly areas. The force of gravity is used to generate adequate water flow pressure for distribution to the villages.
