Animal Intrusion Detection and Repellent System

The Animal Intrusion Detection and Repellent System is also called ANIDERS. They are used to protect the crops from animal intrusion.

About ANIDERS

The ANIDERS use a combination of PIR and AIR sensors. PIR is Passive Infrared Sensors. AIR is Active Infrared Sensors. These sensors are used to detect the intrusion of the animals that are entering the farm or protected area. They then use an electric alarm to drive away the detected animal. The alarm uses a combination of sound and light. ANIDERS are solar powered. Therefore, it does not require batteries or power supply. It charges itself during the day. It is water resistant. Two AIR And PIR sensors put together cover a diameter of 30 metres.

Working of ANIDERS

As soon as the animal is detected, the ANIDER marks the location. It then turns ON the flash light and alarm in that particular region. Thus, it helps the farmers to pinpoint the exact location of the intruded animal. The device is efficient in driving away animals such as deer, wild boars, elephants, nilgai. They also drive away predators such as leopards and tiger.

How is ANIDER different from other systems?

Usually, the animals get acquainted to the recurring lights and sounds in their region. And thus, the alarming systems work in the beginning. However, its effectiveness decreases in due course.  In order to overcome this shortcoming, ANIDER uses permutations and combinations of sound and light patterns. The patterns change every time an intrusion is detected. This is why the success rate of ANIDERS is high as compared to the other systems.

ANIDERS in India

ANIDERS have been successfully installed in high conflict (Man-animal conflict) regions of India. They are installed in Kerala, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. According to the World-Wide Fund for Nature in India. The success rate of ANIDERS is 86%. Jharkhand began installing the machines in October 2021. Jharkhand installed the machine in the name of “Jumbo Hooters”. This is because, here it is used to drive away elephants. The Jumbo Hooters are installed along with cameras to monitor the activities of the animals in the region.
