Andhra Pradesh Inks Pact with Amul

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has signed an agreement with the dairy cooperative Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (GCMMF), the owner of the brand Amul, for the development and promotion of the dairy sector in the state.

This agreement is going to assist the dairy farmers to get a better price by bringing in better marketing facilities and modern technology with the help of the GCMMF. The MoU has been signed by Agriculture Department Special Chief Secretary of the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the GCMMF Chennai Zone Head.

Andhra Pradesh is being touted as the next gateway to the south in the dairy products sector. Ananthpur, Chittoor and Vizag are very close to the neighbouring states and with the help of these districts; Andhra Pradesh can turn out to be the marketing hub for dairy products in the southern region of the country.

The agreement is also going to expose the dairy farmers in the state to world-class infrastructure, technology and marketing opportunities that will improve their standard of living and also the self-reliance of women.

The state is now producing four crore litres of milk per day and the state is committed to helping the cause of women through this sector. On the other hand, Amul sells 140 lakh litre milk per day in Gujarat, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh apart from other states. Its dairy products are sold across the country.
