Alternative Academic Calendar released by Ministry of HRD

On April 23, 2020, the Ministry of Human Resources and Development has released an alternative academic calendar for the primary and upper primary classes, that is till Class VIII.

Highlights

The calendar has been prepared by the NCERT guided by the Ministry of HRD. The aim of the calendar is to keep students engaged meaningfully during their stay at home with the help of parents and teachers.

Role of Teachers in the initiative

The Calendar provides guidelines to the teachers to use social media tools and technological tools to impart education to children in innovative ways. For parents without the knowledge of smart phones, internet, social media, the guidelines instruct teachers to use SMS facilities or voice calls.

About the Calendar

The Calendar contains week-wise plans with challenging and interesting activities. Above all, the learning outcomes of the initiative are mapped. It also consists of activities such as yoga, exercises, pre-vocational skills, etc. The Calendar mainly covers four languages namely, English, Hindi, Urudu and Sanskrit.

The activities are not prescriptive, rather they are suggestive. Therefore, teachers and parents can select the activities that the student is interested in.
