Adavi Tribal Brand
A new brand of forest products has been launched from Nilambur. Minor forest produce harvested by Nilambur tribespeople, such as wild honey, will now be marketed under the Adavi brand.
- National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and the Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) has jointly launched the Adavi brand at a tribal festival that was held at Nilambur.
- The JSS and NABARD collaborated on the implementation of the Gotramruth project, which included the Adavi brand.
- An exhibition titled Disha was organised by NABARD and JSS during the tribal festival.
- The festival attracted dozens of tribespeople, including their Moopans. At the function, the Moopans, or tribe chiefs, were felicitated.
What will be promoted under this brand?
In the initial phase, the Adavi brand will promote pure wild honey, wild asparagus or Shatavari, and various pickles of gooseberries and tender mangoes.
The products will be sold by the Gotramruth Society, which was founded by Nilambur tribespeople. Under this new scheme, better and wider markets have been proposed, especially the foreign markets, for promoting the Adavi products.
About Jan Shikshan Sansthan
The JSS Scheme, formerly known as Shramik Vidyapeeth has been implemented in the country by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) since 1967. In July 2018, it was transferred to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship from the Ministry of Education. The JSSs imparts vocational skill training programmes at the beneficiaries’ doorstep with minimum infrastructure and cost. JSSs not only provide vocational skills but also life skills which can help the beneficiaries in day to day life.
