The 250mm Seer Water Supply Scheme aims to supply water to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir. It was launched by Union Minister Piyush Goyal in October 2021.

The scheme was launched under the ambit of Jal Jeevan Mission. The scheme is to benefit 10,000 people.

What is seer water?

Water seer is the turbine that produces water from air. The water seer turbines are capable of generating 11 gallons of water per day. It uses the principle of condensation to collect clean water from the atmosphere. It does not work in arid regions. Also, the turbine works without causing any sort of pollution or environmental impacts. It does not use chemicals and do not need maintenance.

Working of water seer

The Water Seer device has a turbine in the top. It works using wind power. A long tube and a collector is planted into the ground. And then the soil is packed around the metal tube till its neck. When the wind spins, the blades in the turbine draw air into the metal tube. As the underground temperature is cooler than the atmospheric temperature, the air condenses into water in the collector. This creates an artificial well. The covered sand is removed and the collector is then brought up. Or a hand pump is used to fetch water to the surface.
