The SANKALP scheme aims to set up new trainers and assessors institutes with self-sustainable economic models. This will also involve the setting up of additional training academies in the districts.
What are the highlights?
- The scheme aims to focus on decentralization in skill planning in the states through institutional strengthening at state level.
- This includes the need to set up State Skill Development Missions (SSDMs) and authorize the states to come up with new State and District level Skill Development Plans for the benefit of people.
It also aims to improve the inclusion of all marginalized communities in skill training opportunities.
Updates on the Scheme
- All 36 States/ UTs across the country have consented to participate in the SANKALP scheme.
- It has also given INR 10 lakh each to 117 aspirational districts (as per the Aspirational Skilling Abhiyaan).
- An IT system known as the ?Skill India Portal? has also been developed under the SANKALP scheme which will capture and assimilate skill data.
- There are also several efforts which need to be taken to strengthen the District Skilling ecosystem.
- The District Skill Committee (DSC) should play an important role in changing the perception of skilling in the youth and counsel them in the districts.
- For this, it is important that the training of the skill trainers be done in a robust and comprehensive manner.
