The professor of the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Bengaluru, Mr. U Ramamurty has won the 2015 The Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) award in the engineering category. The other Indians who got the award this year are Mr. Jagdish Ladha (International Rice Research Institute, New Delhi) in the agricultural sciences category and Mr. Sandip Trivedi (Tata Institute for Fundamental Research, Mumbai) in the physics category. The TWAS is a global science academy based in Trieste, Italy, working to advance science and engineering for sustainable prosperity in the developing world. Every year, the Academy awards 8 prizes of worth $15,000 each in the fields of agricultural sciences, biology, chemistry, earth sciences, engineering sciences, mathematics, medical sciences and physics.
