Anil Kumar Dhasmana, an IPS officer of 1981-batch Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the new chief of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) for a period of two years. Dhasmana’s domain of expertise is considered to be Balochistan, counter-terrorism and Islamic affairs. He will succeed Rajinder Khanna, who completes his two-year tenure on January 31, 2017. RAW is the external intelligence agency of India and the head of RAW is designated “Secretary (Research)” in the Cabinet Secretariat and is under the direct command of the Prime Minister and reports on an administrative basis to the Cabinet Secretary of India, who reports to the Prime Minister.
