The Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation has recently constituted Madhav Chitale committee to prepare guidelines for de-silting of the river stretch between Bhimgauda (Uttarakhand) and Farakka (West Bengal). Chitale is a member of the National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA). The 4-member committee has been formed to establish difference between de-silting and sand mining and also to establish need for de-silting for (ensuing) ecology and e-flow of the river Ganga. The tenure of the committee will be 3 months.
