Tamil New Year
Puthandu or Chithirai Tiru-naal, is the celebration of the first day of the Tamil new year in mid-April. On this day, Tamil people greet each other by saying “Puthandu Vazthukal” or “Iniya Tamizh Puthandu Nalvaazhthukkal”. It was celebrated on April 14. Around the same time, Vishu, the traditional new year, is observed in Kerala.
