Dadabhai Naoroji is known as mentor of both Gopal Krishna Gokhale and Mahatma Gandhi. His magnum opus ‘‘Poverty and UnBritish Rule in India’’ propounded the ‘‘drain theory’’ He was the first Indian to become a member of the House of Commons on the Liberal Party ticket. He became the president of INC thrice, in 1886, 1893 and 1906.
