The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi gave its approval on the Constitution of the 21st Law Commission of India, for a period of three years w.e.f. September 1, 2015 to August 31, 2018. The 21st Law Commission shall undertake research in law and review of existing laws in India for making reforms therein and enacting new legislations. It shall also undertake studies and research for bringing reforms in the justice delivery systems for elimination of delay in procedures, speedy disposal of cases, reduction in cost of litigation, etc.The Law Commission will consist of:
(a) a full-time Chairperson.
(b) four full-time Members (including a Member-Secretary).
(c) Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs as ex offcio Member.
(d) Secretary, Legislative Department as ex offcio Member.
(e) not more than five part-time Members.
