T S Papola, a noted labour economist passed away recently. From 1987 to 1995, he was advisor with the erstwhile Planning Commission. He was a founder-member and former director at the Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID) in Delhi; chairman of the Giri Institute of Development Studies, Lucknow, founder-member of the Institute for Human Development (IHD), Delhi, and chairman of the fourth state finance commission of Uttarakhand.
