Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand has been conferred the first ‘World Sanskrit Award’ for her contribution towards promotion of the language by the Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari at the Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra in New Delhi. The award is instituted by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and is presented to eminent Sanskrit scholars to recognise their outstanding contribution to the study/teaching/research in Sanskrit language and literature. Sirindhorn is an educator and scholar of Sanskrit and Pali.
