The Nurturing Excellence in Sports Trust (NEST) has recently launched “Khelegi toh Khileg” the pan-India initiative for girls football between the age of 10 to 15 years along with the National Yuva Cooperative Society (NYCS) in India. The purpose of the initiative is to empower the girl child and using football as a tool to break gender stereotypes, improve self-esteem and develop leadership skills. The first event was held at Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi where over 700 girls took part from across Delhi NCR. The programme was flagged off by Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and MP Meenakshi Lekhi. The NEST is a non-profit organization to support young talented athletes across India who did not have the required resources to compete favorably at the international level and to create sports icons for the future.
