Sakharam Hari Gupte
Sakharam Hari Gupte was a significant Maratha official and confidant in the Peshwa court. Following the conspiracy and subsequent murder of Peshwa Narayanrao in 1773, Gupte was implicated and imprisoned in Dhangad Fort, Ahmednagar, for about 14 months. Although his wife managed to secure the release of their children by paying a substantial ransom, Gupte himself remained incarcerated. His case is notable for highlighting the deep-seated intrigue and volatile power struggles that marked the Maratha administration in the second half of the 18th century.
