Notes: A Declaration on Disaster Preparedness was recently adopted at the 4th Ministerial Conference of the Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. RIMES, established in 2009, is an intergovernmental body that supports member countries with early warning services, disaster risk reduction plans, and training support. It was formed after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami by countries in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific to build a strong regional warning system. RIMES has 22 member states and 26 collaborating states. Its regional early warning center is based at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.
