It was fought on 13 January 1849 between the British East India Company and Sikh armies in the Chillianwala area of the Punjab region in British India (now modern-day Pakistan). Even though it was tactically inconclusive, it was a strategic British victory that ultimately led to the fall of the Sikh Empire in the Indian subcontinent. Sikhs fought British in this battle under Shersingh.
