Notes: In the year 1793, the Permanent Settlement of Bengal was introduced by Lord Cornwallis. It was started in Bengal, Bihar and Odisha and later in Madras and Varanasi. It was an agreement between the East India Company and Bengali landlords to fix revenues. The state demand was fixed at 89% and 11% was retained by the Landlords.`The payment should be made before sunset on the due date. That is why it is also called as 'Sunset Law'.
