International Migrants Day 2019

The International Migrants Day is observed every year on the 18th December as an international observance under the resolution A/RES/55/93 passed by the United Nations General Assembly on 4th December 2000. The date was chosen as on 18th December 1990, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families under resolution A/RES/45/158.
First celebrated in the year 2000, the day has been observed by all United Nations Members States every year, supported by events organized by the International Organisation for Migration’s 500 offices and sub-offices in countries across the world.
This year’s observance will focus on the stories of social cohesion, which are as unique and varied as each of the 272 million migrants living their new lives and building new communities across every corner of the world.
