Putin confirms Medvedev to be PM after parliamentary poll win

  • Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin confirmed he would swap posts with outgoing President Dmitry Medvedev, if voters support the pro-Kremlin United Russia party and Mr Putin’s candidature in the coming elections.

Pinjore to have National Culinary Institute

  • A National Culinary Institute (NCI), North India’s first institute of its kind, would soon be set in Pinjore to boost the employment opportunities in tourism sector. The students would be imparted training about cookery and also Advance Training in Kitchen including different cuisines like Indian Cooking Recipes, Continental Recipes, Chinese Recipes and Thai Recipes.

Poland honours ex-Jamnagar ruler for helping citizens in WW II

  • Republic of Poland had posthumously honoured Sir Digvijay Ranjitsinh Jadeja, former Sahib Bahadur of Jamnagar, with its highest civilian award Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit for his outstanding contribution of giving asylum and hospitality to large group of Polish refugees during World War II. India had conveyed its no objection to conferment of the award.

Scientist Dr Revankar wins ADC Intl Achievement Award

  • Outstanding Scientist Dr U K Revankar, Former Director, Defence Avionics Research Establishment, DRDO, Bangalore, won AOC International Achievement Award in recognition of his contribution in the field of Electronic Warfare (EW) by Association of Old Crows (AOC), Virginia, USA.

Ballistic missile Agni-I test fired successfully from Wheeler Island

  • India’s first intermediate range ballistic missile Agni-I was successfully test fired from the Wheeler island, close to the Dhamra Orissa coast, in the Bay of Bengal. The two-stage Agni incorporates a slightly modified Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle (ASLV) design which was first test flown on May 22, 1989, from the Interim Test Range(ITR) at Chandipur-on-sea, about 15 kms from here. Agni has a short range of around 650 kms. The surface-to-surface Agni-missile, a key delivery system in India’s nuclear deterrent profile, was being planned during 2001-2002. The government has already approved the Agni missile project for the development of long-range system using the ‘state-of-the-art technology’
    developed indigenouslyThe Agni missile has been described as the Ambitious Integrated Guided Missile Programme (IGMDI) of the Defence Research Development Organisation(DRDO).
