Ministry of Power released data on India’s per capita consumption of electricity

As per data released by the Ministry of Power, during 2018-19, India’s per capita consumption of electricity was 1,181 kWh.

Highlights from the data released

  • Dadra and Nagar Haveli, at 15,179 kWh he highest per capita consumption in 2018-19.
  • Gujarat with 2378 kWh, Goa (2274), Haryana (2082) and Punjab (2046) making the top 5 as the data released.
  • Bihar finished at the bottom with 314 kWh, followed by Assam (341), Nagaland (356), Manipur (371) and Tripura (514) at the bottom 5 places.

The Ministry also released data for the most number of villages electrified between 2017-2019. A total of 5,251 un-electrified villages across the country were electrified between 2017-2019 under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana scheme.
Arunachal Pradesh with 1134 villages electrified placed at the top followed by Odisha (925), Jharkhand (729), Bihar (596) and Assam (572) making the top 5 in the list.
