Mary Kom becomes first Indian woman athlete to be recommended for Padma Vibhushan

MC Mary Kom from Manipur has become the first Indian woman athlete to be recommended for Padma Vibhushan by the Sports Ministry. She is the only woman to become World Amateur Boxing champion for a record six times, and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the seven world championships.  If recommendations are accepted, Mary Kom will become the 4th sports personality to receive the Padma Vibhushan after chess great Vishwanathan Anand, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary. Mary Kom won the Padma Bhushan in 2013 and Padma Shri in 2006.
